The Best Of Kiawah Island

Every morning our day began with a bike ride to the beach and then a long walk in the sand. Every sunset would end the same way. Our morning and evening discoveries would also reveal welk shells, sand dollars, shark eye shells, and sea foam bubbling along the shore. The kaleidoscope of colors that sunrise and sunset would cascade across the sky were reason alone to fall in love with Kiawah Island.

Here, the air is a little thicker, you can smell the salt water in the breeze, and the topography sinks beneath sea level – this is South Carolina low country. Of all the culture, beauty, and tradition that the area offers, there is one place in low country that has made it a priority to cater to families while preserving the natural beauty of the land. That place is Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

Perhaps the one dining experience that will forever be embedded in my memory is the Mingo Point Oyster Roast – a low country tradition for almost 40 years. A lively gathering with music, fresh oysters, a spread of delicious food, and even naturalist shows and crafts for the children, the Mingo Point Oyster Roast is held once a month and worth planning your trip around. Shuck oysters and enjoy your time with family and friends all while watching the sunset over the beautiful estuaries of the low country.
